Biography

Martin Melang is a partner at Burns & Hansen. His diverse background and knowledge provide him an advantage in understanding all aspects of business transactions as well as civil litigation.

Marty represents companies ranging from single-member LLCs to large corporations. He has extensive experience advising business entities in various transactional matters, including commercial acquisitions, real property transactions, risk management and other operational matters. Marty regularly drafts and analyzes purchase agreements, leases, stock and membership transfers, employment contracts, mortgages, liens, and covenants not to compete or solicit business.

In his litigation practice, Marty appears in both federal and state courts in matters involving complex civil litigation, real estate, and construction disputes. His litigation experience also includes business ownership disputes, contract enforcement, property title claims, and related commercial conflicts.

Additionally, Marty has represented numerous non-profit organizations in actions seeking to preserve and safeguard historical buildings districts and other landmarks.

Marty graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2003, after completing his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Psychology at Saint Olaf College. During law school, Marty worked at the Office of the State of Nebraska Attorney General. He is licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts in Minnesota.

Marty was born in northern Minnesota, but grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He spends his time outside of work with his wife and three children, and enjoys politics and music. Marty is an avid follower of the University of Nebraska’s sports programs.
