After finishing military service, Trevor worked in private practice for eight years at a law firm, concentrating on municipal law, labor law, and civil litigation. Before joining Burns and Hansen, Trevor worked for the Minnesota legislature as a majority party research consultant for the commerce committee, energy policy committee, and labor and regulated industries committee.
