Biography

Patrick Burns is the founding partner of Burns & Hansen, P.A. With over twenty years of legal experience, Patrick will be the first to tell you he is not your typical attorney. He has settled and litigated cases in almost every area of law. His depth of experience includes family law, real estate law, business litigation, bankruptcy, and estate planning.

Patrick has litigated in every county in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. He is well versed in all aspects of the legal system as it pertains to family law, and knows how to achieve the best results for his clients. He also serves as a parenting consultant, working with parents in high-conflict custody and parenting time matters.

Patrick has three main principles that guide how he advises his clients. First, while employing a practical, no-nonsense approach to practicing law, Patrick candidly advises his clients about their legal problems and solutions without the complicated jargon. It is very important that clients understand their circumstances and potential strategies, so that they can make informed decisions. Second, if settlement is necessary, Patrick will work hard to settle a client's case in a cost-effective manner that always keeps the client's goals front and center. However, whether it is federal or state court, Patrick is also not afraid to take a case to trial if the circumstances demand it. Third, Patrick believes that the best way to settle a case is to prepare for trial. Whether a client is at the beginning of the case, stuck in settlement discussions, or need to replace counsel on the eve of trial, Patrick and his team of attorneys can take over a legal matter.

In addition to his rigorous advocacy for his clients, Patrick works with individuals and families with seizure disorders through the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota. Over the last decade, Patrick has served as the organizations president, as well as on its Board of Directors and Professional Advisory Committee.

In his spare time, Patrick is a professional alpine ski instructor. He has coached Buck Hill's Development Racing Team for the last ten years. He is also an avid and aspiring professional photographer.
